ACT Health Group's unique interdisciplinary approach towards Prevention, Assessment and Rehabilitation, ensures all aspect of the individual are monitored and taken into account. Treatment

Services available at the clinics may be utilized as a single discipline or in an interdisciplinary team approach, depending on the needs of the individual to promote optimal recovery. The clinical director at each clinic will assess and make the determination (in conjunction with you and your treating physician) as to the best approach and team to resolve your problem.

  • Physiotherapy
    The physiotherapist is your partner in evaluating and restoring strength, endurance, movement and physical abilities affected by injury, disease and disability.

  • Massage Therapy
    The massage therapist is your partner in relieving muscle pain and stiffness through natural manipulation of the soft tissues.

  • Chiropractic
    The chiropractor is your partner in assessing conditions of the spine, nervous system and joints. Treatment includes specific joint mobilizations, manipulations as well as guided exercises and the use of modalities.

  • Acupuncture
    Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used medical procedures in the world. It is a family of procedures involving stimulation of anatomical points on the body to effect pain relief and stimulate function.

  • Chiropody
    Chiropody is the assessment of the foot and the treatment and prevention of diseases or disorders of the foot by therapeutic, orthotic and palliative means.

  • Occupational Therapist
    The Occupational Therapist is your partner in evaluating impairment and disabilities and providing solutions such as functional task simulation, assistive devices or ergonomic adjustments around the home or workplace to improve the activities of normal living or work. The Occupational Therapist will ensure that your physical capabilities match the minimum physical demands.

  • Psychology and Psychotherapy
    The psychotherapist and psychotherapist is your partner in conducting an in depth psychological assessment to reveal and address psychological barriers to recovery and to provide counseling to enable you to deal with mental trauma as a result of an injury or condition.

  • Exercise Therapist/Kinesiologist
    The Kinesiologist is your partner in developing a customized exercise program which includes stretching, resistance training and cardiovascular training to allow you to build strength and endurance and allow you to return to pre-accident activity safely.

Assessment and Diagnostics

To ensure that a proper diagnosis is arrived at, which is the basis for the construction of a proper treatment plan, ACT Health Group has an array of assessment services dedicated to this end. The professionals are assigned either as an individual or in a multi-disciplinary team approach. Our core team of healthcare professionals are chosen for their experience and expertise in their discipline. ACT Health Group has a roster of over 250 specialists across Ontario and Canada.

HealthNet Assessments Inc., the assessment division of ICC HealthNet Canada Inc., specializes in Independent Medical Evaluations for third party payors including Auto Insurers, Short and Long Term Disability Insurers and Workplace Safety and Insurance Boards, as well as for legal counsel. Our client services include statistical tracking of service delivery outcomes. These include the timely securing of appointment dates, rapid report turnaround times and delivery of objective, evidence-based reports that directly address the referral questions. Our in-house quality assurance program, with reports peer-reviewed by regulated health professionals, ensures excellence in Independent Medical Evaluation reports for a variety of outcomes.

  • Functional Capacity Evaluation
    A Functional Capacity Evaluation assesses the ability to perform activities of daily living or work and matches it to the minimum requirements of the task. This assessment may be used as a baseline to design the starting point of a rehabilitation program or to determine the ability to return to activity in a safe manner.

  • Home Site Assessment
    This assessment is designed to evaluate the physical functioning in the home environment. Interventions may result in a recommendation for assistive devices to enable self-reliance and independent functioning.

  • Ergonomics Assessments
    This assessment enables the clinician to identify and control risk factors at the workplace such as suboptimal ergonomic design and provide recommendations to reduce the incidence of aggravation or re-injury.

  • Independent Medical Evaluations
    An Independent Medical Assessment is an objective assessment of an individual's medical status. These assessments are used when there is a question or need for clarification of a diagnosis, when there is a barrier to recovery and when there is the need for further recommendations on the treatment direction and or return to work or activities of normal living. ACT Health Group has access to a over 250 specialists including Physiatrists (Experts in physical Medicine), Orthopedic Specialists, Neurologists, Psychiatrists, Rheumatologists and Pain Specialists.

  • Diagnostics
    ACT Health Group is able to provide expedited access to diagnostic evaluations and tests such as MRIs, Ultrasound, Stress Testing and Pulmonary Function tests which in turn facilitates diagnosis and treatment.

Specialized Programs

ACT Health Group has created several specialized programs with proven protocols which enable the treatment team to deal with complex issues of a physical, functional and emotional/psychological nature including chronic pain issues.

  • Interdisciplinary Functional Restoration Program
    The program is also referred as Comprehensive Occupational Rehabilitation. It is aimed at someone who has been off work or has not returned to activities of normal living after 6 weeks or more. Each program is customized to the client, based on physical, functional and psychosocial assessment. The team consists of a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Kinesiologist, Psychologist and a Physician as required by the nature of the issues at hand. The program typically runs 6 weeks daily and is characterized by progressive physical reconditioning, functional strengthening and coping strategies for overcoming pain and or stress.

  • Driver Rehabilitation
    This is a specialized recovery program addressing issues such as driving anxiety, fear or phobia in transportation situations, either as a driver or passenger. In addition, the program addresses pain and physical limitations around driving. The team is comprised of a certified Driving Therapist and may include one or both of an Occupational Therapist or Psychologist. The treatment starts with a in-office or home assessment followed by an in-car assessment in a specially equipped vehicle. The driving sessions are tailored to address the specific needs of the client and proceed to achieve a return to safe and confident driving.

  • Chronic Pain Program
    A chronic pain condition is likely to develop in cases where there has been an incomplete or no resolution for 12 plus weeks post injury. The program is interdisciplinary in nature and includes a team of physical therapists, Occupational Therapists and with an enhanced focus on psychological approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to pain management and biofeedback. In addition, the initial assessment may include a thorough review of pharmacological issues and recommendations thereof. There may also be a recommendation for pain blocking interventions such as injections in the soft tissues to break the pain cycle which is delivered by a specially trained physician or specialist.

  • Physical Demands Analysis
    Every job consists of a number of specific tasks requiring specific movements and body postures. A Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) documents these components. The PDA makes it possible to compare the physical requirements of the job to the employee's current capabilities.

  • Pre-Placement Medical Assessment
    These assessments are completed by physicians and provide an employee's pre-employment baseline medical and physical capabilities and may include a physician exam, respiratory, vision, hearing screen, functional testing and blood work.

  • Post Offer Screens
    These assessments assist in the hiring process by performing job specific functional tests to determine the applicant's ability to perform the essential functions of a particular job.

  • Injury Prevention Programs
    ACT Health Group has programs designed to educate your employees on safe lifting and back safe programs. These are customized to the demands of the workplace.
